Day Two - Sunday, July 28, 2024

After breakfast we got our first 12-member group photo on the stairs of the hotel.

This is where we will eat our breakfast meals and have morning devotions.

Nancy’s morning devotional was titled “The danger of love without truth and truth without love” and she led us in singing “They will know we are Christian by our love” and “The Heart of Worship.”

She reminded us that truth and love are important, together.

We need to love each other and tell the truth in love to each other on the team and in our words and deeds today as we worship with Pastor Junior’s church at 3pm and then we hold an eyeglass clinic with his congregation.

Alysia gave us one last refresher in our clinic duties behind the hotel’s little makeshift bar on the second floor, where our 3 double rooms and 2 triple rooms are located.


Our assignments tonight will be:

Rhonda - welcome, education station

Keith & Christen - pointers at the distance and reading testing station

Stan & Jamie - testers at the testing station

Tom & Heather - pullers at the dispensing station

Nancy & Joel - dispensers at the eyeglasses dispensing station

John & Patrick - fitters at the fitting station

MOST ministries sent nearly 3,000 glasses with us … we carried them in our large checked bags … so that we can bring vision to hundreds of Hondurans. Pastor Junior, our Honduran host, will share the Gospel with everyone who comes to the clinic, as they wait to receive their glasses.

Here at Pastor Junior’s Lutheran church in LaPaz, we anticipate how God will open doors:

First we worshipped in this beautiful new church building:

Tonight we had the “soft opening” of the clinic where we each got comfortable and confident in our station roles. We served 22 people.


Tomorrow the clinic opens for the community. Pastor Junior has advertised it, so we expect to see many Hondurans come to receive physical and spiritual sight.

Day One - Saturday, July 27, 2024

Thank you to our Saturday prayer partners for this trip: Tom, Sharron, Melodee, Gary, Adele, Dave, Sandy, Marge, Sandy, Amy, Brenda, Karen, Jim. Today we travel to La Paz, Honduras, from Detroit and Indianapolis. We met early (did I say early?) Saturday morning in the church parking lot. Ask Tom where he lost his phone before we even left DTW. He got to know the gate agents quite well and was relieved when Patrick stood to exit the plane in Miami. Breakfast in Miami Christen made Tom’s day with newspapers We got to experience Jesus in an odd way when we showed up at the hotel where our reservation had been made two months ago. There was now no room in the inn for our team of 12. Bit our hosts were helpful, gracious and efficient. Slowly but surely we made our way to this hotel.
