Day Three - Monday, July 29, 2024

Today we begin in earnest. But first …

Morning devotions led by Tom who read from a Truth for Life book. It focused on our faith leading us to works (James.) We should be diligent to the Word, but not be just hearers of the Word. “Blessed are those who do” under the power of the Holy Spirit. Are we a growing Christian or a shriveling one?

Alysia told us to expect blessings even though it will be long day, in the heat & humidity with many people coming who cannot afford glasses, something we take for granted in the USA.

We served 80 patients today and 24 yesterday, so we have been busy! But seeing God show up in so many wonderful ways has been a blessing.

A local news broadcaster (center below) came to interview Pastor Junior and Alysia about the eyeglass clinic, and he joined us for lunch. His broadcasts might bring in more people on Tuesday.

Our team worked hard, had fun and met so many happy people.

If you look close at the picture below you will see a Honduran pastor showing Pastor Joel his new church building, being constructed 40 miles north of LaPaz.

His new glasses will help him with his own ministry.

We gathered with our hosts and translators at the end of our busy day.

After dinner at Chef restaurant a few blocks from the hotel we returned for a brief meeting. Jamie led a devotion written by Rev Michael Zeigler titled Friendship, Rivalry, and Atonement and included 1Peter 4:7-11. We ended the day singing “Go my children with my blessing”

The faithful prayers of Tom, Darcel, Melodee, Gary, Adele, Marge, Sandy, Amy, Brenda and Karin have seen this mission team through many hours and days. Afterwards Christen affirmed Keith with words about how, as they both were “pointers” serving side-by-side in the testing station all week, he grew in his faith as he opened up with people serving humbly. Day Six - Thursday, August 1, 2024

It takes many people for a mission trip to happen, not the least of which are prayer partners. We are thankful for the prayers of Tom, Darcel, Vinny, Lisa, Jamari, Vincent, Melodee, Gary, Adele, Sandy, John, Alice, Sandy, Amy, Brenda and Karin today. Stan began our day with a devotion based on selected verses of Amos 7. ”Go prophesy.” Have we ever felt are called to do something we don’t feel qualified for? Amos was sent by God from tending sheep to prophesying to His people. Jesus came to rescue us by laying down His life. Stan asked us to: name a challenge I didn’t feel prepared for describe how I got thru it what did it teach me about Gods love What were we asked to do on this mission trip that we didn’t think we could do — that with God’s help we did? We closed with “Just give me Jesus” by Jeremy Camp. Day Eight - Saturday, August 3, 2024

As we wind down our time on the mission field, we are thankful for the faithful prayers of Tom, Vinny, Lisa, Jamari, Vincent, Melodee, Gary, Adele, Sandy, Amy, Brenda, Karin and Mark. Alysia led our closing devotion with a reading from the transfiguration account in Luke. Peter wanted to put up tents and stay right THERE. We might like to stay right HERE in Honduras. But…How can we take what we experienced here and better serve the people in our lives back in our communities? Our final song was led by Heather. We joined in perfect harmony on “The Blessing”. Okay, the blog writer just made a joyful noise and trusted God to accept our heartfelt worship. We leave the hotel at 8:20am for the XPL airport. It is sad to leave, but we know God used us for His good work here in Honduras. …at the airport in Honduras… Now we wait. We got through to the gate easily. Alysia got us here before the crowds.
