Day Four - Tuesday, July 30, 2024

Melodee, Sandy, Sandy, Gary, Adele, Karin, Tom, Amy, Brenda, and Nancy all signed up to pray for this mission trip today. MOST ministries taught us that a God-glorifying mission opportunity includes goers (us) and senders (which includes pray-ers.) That is why we are so grateful for our prayer partners.

We distributed 146 pairs of glasses today. And if each person each received one pair of sunglasses, we distributed 160 pairs of sunglasses.

Today we began with our “typical” breakfast of … eggs, refried beans and tortillas but it was presented differently, said Tom. But we were delighted to see avocado added in today.

The thing that we work for is the “smiles” …

Joel began our day leading a devotion, with Psalm 5, the morning Psalm of petitions. Then he read Acts 3:1-11 where Peter and John were being asked by the paralytic for alms but received healing. A late 300’s preacher, John Chrysostom, wrote about Acts 3 that a Christian must fulfill his role, using an interesting example of trees. The very nature of a Christian is to send forth light. “Don’t insult God by not using your gifts and talents,” said Joel.

So off we go in Pastor Junior’s 12-passenger van, which he uses to pick up parishioners each Sunday. Watching for potholes is an art form, we have observed.

It was a productive day. We arrived at the church at about 8:30 and left about 4:00, after serving nearly 120 people of all ages today.

So much happiness and patience and gratitude filled the hot, muggy day.

There were people waiting (below) when we arrived, so we had to reset our stations and get ready quickly.

John, Heather and Patrick thought it was matching shirt day.

Christen, Joel and Tom (also wearing matching shirts) checked out the supply of eyeglasses before we began.

Then Joel tried some on as he joked with 20-yr-old Diego, one of our interpreters .

Nancy helped this “best-dressed” woman find sunglasses that completed her outfit 😎 and helped her find glasses to see more clearly.

Rhonda, our fluent Spanish speaking team member from IN, expertly explained the medical information to 24 groups of people today, nearly exhausting her voice.

This man is a professional driver (having carried a few US Presidents) and has a small business.

Cuteness walked into the room.

Look closely to see Stan helping a patient with help from Joseph, our bilingual interpreter who starts his senior year of high school soon.

In between fitting people with their new glasses, Patrick stays busy taking pictures. Here are some of his Tuesday pictures. Look at these smiles!

Our team at work.
